    At least 30 Uyghurs were apprehended at the town of Mohan on the border with Laos in Yunnan’s Mengla county in late September, and scores of others were detained around the province in recent weeks, a Uyghur merchant in the province told RFA’s Uyghur Service.

    A Southeast Asia media delegation recently participated in the "China-Laos Railway Journey", at the invitation by the People's Government of Yunnan Province, to visit Kunming, Pu'er and Xishuangbanna, and learnt of the immigration and customs procedures at the transit station in Mohan, located at the China-Laos border.

    The study area was located in Mohan town, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, southwestern China (21°10′ − 21°26′ N, 101°27′ − 101°41′ E). The region experiences a tropical monsoon climate, with distinct dry (November to April) and wet (May to October) seasons.
